Aime Rajotte is CFO of Alberta, Canada’s, Greenbelt Farms, which is a third-generation family farm owned and run by Aime, his four brothers, and one nephew (with another nephew in training). In the late 1930s, when Aime’s father took over the farm, Greenbelt had four milk cows, a few dozen hogs, chickens, and about 150 acres. Today, Greenbelt owns 6,500 acres, rents an additional 2,000 acres, milks 450 cows, runs a 160-cow beef herd, runs a commercial feed mill, runs a 2,000 head feedlot for the dairy and beef animals, and has 120,000 chickens with plans to raise production to 150,000. The Rajotte family is also involved in a local car dealership. Aime and his brothers credit diversification of their enterprises with making Greenbelt prosperous and enduring; in this podcast, Aime discusses how diversification (among other important priorities, like humility and generosity) has empowered the Rajotte family farm to thrive through good times and bad.
